Data Driven School Leadership

The Data-Driven School Leadership (DDSL) program was developed by Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) with support from the Tanoto Foundation to strengthen school leaders’ capacity to use data to improve teaching, learning, and foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) outcomes. The program responds to continuing concerns regarding the quality of student learning in Indonesia, particularly following the decline in literacy and numeracy performance reported in the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Through training, coaching, instructional monitoring, and school-based planning processes, the intervention aims to strengthen data-driven leadership practices and support schools in translating learning evidence into targeted instructional improvement efforts. To assess the effectiveness of the intervention, the DDSL Impact Evaluation (DDSL-IE) was designed using a quasi-experimental mixed-methods approach. The baseline study was conducted in Kabupaten Nias and Kabupaten Pandeglang and involved 40 treatment schools and 40 control schools.
